The parade is the Gâs du Berry’s trademark. This group which is nothing but an gathering of musicians performs the Berry music in marching band. Indeed the repertoire is mainly made up by march music. The parade has always been the most common production of the Gâs du Berry. Nowadays 20 up to 30 musicians form a very original parade still very much appreciated in local feasts and exhibitions.
The Gâs du Berry wish to present all the customs and traditions in their shows. Based on folk tales, books, songs, the shows mix narrations, dances and songs, with the continuous beat of the hurdy-gurdies and the bag-pipes. These performances, given in the open air or in concert halls, are scheduled (length and content) according to the type of manifestation or the organizers’ desire.
The dances form a major part of the repertoire. That is the reason why all the musicians are called“balleux” (folk dance musicians). Many of the cities and villages in our country have witnessed a traditional ball animated by the Gâs du Berry.
